CHICAGO ROCKFORD
International airport

Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study

Public meetings

Public Information WORKSHOP #1: December 15th, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Greater Rockford Airport Authority (GRAA) is initiating a study to document the noise effects from aircraft operations at Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD).  The study is commonly referred to as a Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study (Part 150 Study).  The purpose for conducting a Part 150 Study is to develop a balanced and cost-effective plan to reduce current noise impacts, where practical, and to limit the potential for future noise impacts.

An important element of a successful Part 150 Study at RFD is for the airport staff and consulting team to hear from residents of the communities in the vicinity of the airport that are most affected by aircraft noise levels.  Residents and, business owners, are encouraged to attend the workshop to provide input, ask questions, and gain an understanding of the scope and purpose of the study.

Public Information Workshop Agenda:

  • Introduction
  • Role of the Advisory Committee
  • Part 150 Study Overview, Process & Elements
  • Public Involvement
  • History of Noise Abatement Planning
  • Noise Modeling Input Data Collection
  • Baseline Noise Exposure Contours
  • Next Steps
  • Q&A

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this workshop will be conducted as an online virtual workshop. A link to register for the online workshop will be posted on the Home Page.

PUBLIC INFORMATION WORKSHOP #3 & PUBLIC HEARING: NOVEMBER 15TH, 6:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M

The Greater Rockford Airport Authority (GRAA) is presenting an online Virtual Public Information Workshop and Public Hearing on November 15th, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study it is currently conducting at the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD).  The study is commonly referred to as a Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study (Part 150 Study).  A link to register for the public information workshop & hearing is located on the Home Page.

The purpose for conducting this Noise Compatibility Study at Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) is to develop a balanced and cost-effective plan to reduce current noise impacts from aircraft operations, where practical, and to limit the potential for future impacts.  The Noise Compatibility Study is conducted under guidance provided in Part 150 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.

For this workshop/hearing, the materials presented will describe the Existing (2023) and Future (2028) Noise Exposure Maps (NEMs), incompatible land uses and the recommended noise abatement and land use mitigation measures within the RFD NCP and associated estimated costs.

An important element of a successful Noise Compatibility Study at DLH is for the airport staff and consulting team to hear from residents of the communities in the vicinity of the airport that are most affected by aircraft noise levels.  To make this possible, residents, business owners, and concerned citizens are encouraged to participate in the Public Workshop/Hearing and provide input, ask questions, and gain an understanding of the scope and purpose of the study.
